Originally aired as a live webinar on June 23rd, 2022 - this course offers information on how to prepare yourself and your community for armed disruptors at LGBTQ+ and other PRIDE events. You're invited to share the registration link with your friends, family, and community members who may also need this information.
As the legislative attack on trans and queer persons continue, hate groups have been emboldened to act publicly. Armed militias, neo-nazis and violent white supremacists have disrupted public PRIDE festivals and public queer spaces from libraries to churches. We anticipate this kind of organized and armed disruption to continue.
Join Rev. Tracy Howe, Minister for Congregational and Community Engagement, and Rev. Brittany Caine-Conley (a.k.a. Smash), cofounder of Congregate Cville, for an introduction to rapid response and embodiment practices to help local church members prepare and respond for this kind of violence. Topics such as risk assessment, intervention, communication and organizing in these scenarios will be addressed.
Both Rev. Tracy Howe and Rev. Brittany Caine-Conley are activists, ordained UCC clergy, and contributing authors to the book, “Building Up a New World: Congregational Organizing for Transformative Impact” (Pilgrim Press, 2023).
